US Politics | Mom and step-mom are arrested over beating death of nine-year-old son as siblings say he was ‘whooped with paddle’
THE parents of a nine-year-old boy who was repeatedly "whopped with a paddle" have been charged in connection with his death. Fort Wayne Police Department report that Elijah Thomas Ross's mother Jenna Mae Miller, 36 and stepmother Alesha Lynn Miller, 30, were arrested after he passed away last Saturday. Elijah Thomas Ross, 9, passed away in hospital on Saturday His mother, Jenna Mae Miller, 36, has been charged in connection to his death Her partner, Alesha Lynn Miller, has been charged with deadly battery Authorities allege that the pair failed to intervene and offer their son the necessary medical aid that he required after a series of brutal assaults. According to court documents, the nine-year-old had been engaged in a fight with his older brother while the two parents attended a Christmas party. But upon their return they reportedly found that the brawl had "gotten out of hand" rendering Elijah breathless. The couple immediately rushed the young boy to the Lutheran Downtown Hospital, deferring blame to his siblings. However, he tragically died some four hours later, despite the best efforts of medical staff. An autopsy later determined that the child had suffered "multiple bruises" to his back, face, buttocks and genitals most likely caused by a belt or a large paddle.
